Capacity Building with a New Paradigm in Environmental Management: The Integrated Watershed and Coastal Areas Management in Cienfuegos, Cuba - Angel R. Leon Perez

This presentation argues the necessity of merging the conceptual framework of ICZM with that of IWCAM for successful environmental management of these areas. It, 1) argues the importance of the vision of IWCAM for the formal education (through the development of the ICZM masters programme) of specialists, functionaries and decision-makers, making them more conscious of the environment-society relationship and educating them for active participation in the decision-making process, and, 2) defines how this process was executed through modifications to the original ICZM Masters Programme (Angel R. Leon Perez, Maria E. Castellanos Gonzalez and Clara E. Miranda Vera.
