Environmental Impact Assessment Review Training Workshop

The Global Environment Facility-funded Integrating Watershed and Coastal Areas Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (GEF-IWCAM) Project held an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Review Training Workshop, 07 – 09 June 2011 in Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This training is in response to a mandate from the Project Steering Committee to provide GEF-IWCAM Participating Countries with capacity in EIA review to promote the integrated approach to watersheds and coastal areas. It provided training to participants in the EIA Review Process, including overview of the purpose and objectives of EIA reviews; EIA terms of reference; internal and external review processes; key aspects of the review process (s.a. compliance, accuracy, public input, presentation); review of “Preliminary Environmental Impact Statements”, and other relevant matters. The training is specially developed to the specific needs and characteristics of Caribbean Small Island Developing States, taking into account resource limitations (human and financial), socio- economic trends, and specific environmental concerns.
