Coastal Aquifer Management in Small Island Developing States of the Caribbean: Challenges and New Directions

The Global Environment Facility-funded Integrating Watershed and Coastal Areas Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (GEF-IWCAM) Project, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held a workshop on Coastal Aquifer Management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) of the Caribbean: Challenges and New Directions, from October 11 to 12, 2010, in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The purpose of this workshop was to discuss critical issues and practices related to coastal aquifers in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), such as climate change, land use management and zoning, and abstraction management. The workshop participants will worked together to develop ways in which to address these challenges. In order to multiply the effect of the training, participants are also expected to share this knowledge with their colleagues upon return to their respective countries.
